Roadmap to Regulation™

Understand your child’s emotions, energy, and regulation—and know how to support them.

Maybe your child goes from happy to overwhelmed in seconds.

Maybe their body seems to be moving all day long—jumping, climbing, crashing, or struggling to slow down.

Maybe getting dressed, leaving the house, sitting for a meal, transitioning away from play, or winding down for bed feels harder some days than others.

Or maybe big emotions seem to come out of nowhere—and the strategies you’ve tried don’t always work.

You’ve tried the sensory activities, movement breaks, calming strategies, and routines.

But regulation is about more than managing big emotions.

Regulation impacts your child’s emotions, energy, attention, ability to move through everyday routines, and how they respond to the world around them.

And the hard part isn’t finding more strategies.

It’s understanding what’s happening in the moment so you know what kind of support may actually help.

That’s what Roadmap to Regulation™ teaches you.

Created by a pediatric occupational therapist and mom, this self-paced, 5-section course helps you understand how regulation works, recognize the clues your child is giving you, and choose practical tools that match where they are in that moment.

So whether your child is moving nonstop, becoming overwhelmed, struggling through a routine, or working through a big emotion, you have a framework for knowing where to start.

And over time, you’re helping your child build that same awareness:

“I notice what’s happening in my body. I understand what I might need. And I have tools that can help.”

Regulation is helping your child learn to move through different emotions, energy levels, and everyday demands while gradually building awareness of what’s happening inside their body.

That’s why Roadmap goes beyond simply teaching your child to label an emotion or use a calming strategy.

You’ll learn how to help them notice:

What is happening in my body?

What clues is my body giving me?

What might help me right now?

What can I do next?

Because the long-term goal isn’t simply:

“I’m mad.”

It’s:

“I know what mad feels like in my body—and I’m learning what helps me move through it.”

Your 5-Section Roadmap

SECTION 1 | Understand the Nervous System

Why can your child use a skill one moment and seem completely unable to access it the next?

Learn how different nervous-system and arousal states affect your child’s emotions, energy, attention, connection, and ability to regulate.

Instead of immediately asking:

“How do I get them calm?”

you’ll begin asking:

“What state are they in—and what kind of support makes sense right now?”

SECTION 2 | Understand Your Child’s Sensory Patterns

Maybe your child loves to move, crash, climb, chew, touch, and explore.

Or maybe certain sounds, clothing, grooming, crowds, or unexpected touch can quickly become overwhelming.

You’ll learn how children process sensory information and how to recognize your child’s individual patterns and preferences.

So you can better understand what helps them feel comfortable, organized, and ready to participate in their day.

SECTION 3 | Three Powerful Sensory Systems

What does it mean when your child is jumping off the couch, spinning around the room, squeezing everything, or constantly looking for movement?

You’ll learn how proprioceptive, vestibular, and tactile input affect regulation—and why more movement isn’t always the answer for a child who is already moving fast.

Most importantly, you’ll learn why, when, and how to use different types of sensory input to help your child move through different energy levels.

SECTION 4 | Co-Regulation

When your child’s emotions get bigger, yours can too.

You’ll learn how your presence, connection, language, and nervous system can support your child through difficult moments.

You’ll also learn practical ways to build connection and co-regulation into everyday life—so you don’t feel like you need the perfect words when emotions get big.

SECTION 5 | Regulation in Real Life

This is where everything comes together.

The rushed morning.

Leaving the playground.

The after-school crash.

The bedtime struggle.

The big emotion you didn’t see coming.

You’ll learn how to build simple regulation routines, prepare for transitions, understand meltdowns vs. tantrums, reconnect after hard moments, and use the NICE framework:

Notice → Implement → Change → Ease

So what you learn becomes something you can actually use throughout your child’s day.

Roadmap Is For You If…

Your child can go from okay to overwhelmed quickly.

Their energy can feel very high one moment and completely depleted the next.

Transitions, big emotions, or everyday routines can sometimes feel difficult to navigate.

You’ve tried different strategies but aren’t always sure which one to use or why.

You’ve taught your child emotion words or calming strategies, but they have trouble accessing them when they’re actually upset.

And you want to help your child better understand their emotions, energy, and the clues their body is giving them.

Help your child build regulation skills that go beyond the hard moment.

Regulation isn’t about making big emotions disappear or expecting your child to be calm all the time.

It’s helping them gradually build the awareness to recognize:

“This is what I’m feeling.”

“This is what I notice in my body.”

“This is what might help.”

“And I know what I can do next.”

So whether they’re navigating big emotions, high energy, transitions, or everyday routines, they’re building skills they can continue to use as they grow.

Understand their emotions. Recognize their energy. Build regulation skills together.
