What Is My Dog Telling Me?

Are you worried about your dog’s behavior, but aren’t sure what it means, or whether it’s a problem that needs to be “fixed?”

Analyzing dog behavior on video is part of all of my behavior programs.

I’ve been using video analysis for educational purposes since I graduated from university with a BA in film and television production.

Since the pandemic, I’ve utilized this extraordinarily effective method to show clients their dog’s behavior in detail, and the interactions between them and their dog from an objective perspective.

For the first time, my clients can see for themselves what’s happening, and receive professional analysis of what might be causing it, plus recommendations for improving the behavior.

Now I’m offering this educational tool as a standalone service, whether or not you ultimately decide to work with me further.

You get the benefit of more than 2 decades of professional canine behavior modification experience for less than the price of a one-on-one consultation.

All you do is send me video of the behavior that has you confused, concerned, or simply wondering: What’s going on here?

I’ll review it in the context of what you tell me about your dog, and the behavior you’re contacting me about.

My recorded commentary and recommendations will be on the video I send back, so you can SEE for yourself what I’m talking about.

You send:

  • Up to 3 short video clips

  • Maximum of 5 minutes of video total

  • One primary question you want answered

  • The change you hope to make in your dog’s behavior

  • Some context about your dog, including their age, how long they’ve lived with you, their general behavior (anxious, calm, hyperactive, shy, easily frightened by noises, etc.), and what happened before and after the footage in the video clip(s)

You receive:

A professional analysis of your dog’s behavior on the video(s) you send me.

The length of your analysis will depend on the amount and complexity of footage you submit. As a guide, a full 5-minute submission will typically receive about 12–15 minutes of recorded analysis.

I’ll show you and explain:

  • What I observe

  • The moments I think are most important — including things that are impossible to see in real time

  • What your dog’s behavior may be communicating

  • Important information that the video doesn’t provide that might impact my recommendations, if any

  • What I recommend you watch for or try next, based on what the video shows

Dog behavior makes much more sense when we slow it down, observe it objectively, and let dog body language speak for our dogs.

Sometimes the most useful answer is: That’s a very common behavior in dogs.

Sometimes it’s: Pay attention to what you’re doing here, and how your dog responds.

And sometimes it’s: We don’t have enough data to come to a conclusion about this yet.

Any of these can profoundly impact your next steps.

Example questions for a Video Analysis:

“My dog freezes on walks. What am I missing?”

“Is this play between my dogs okay?”

“Why does my dog do this when they see dogs (or people or delivery trucks)?”

“Why does my dog bark at visitors? Is it aggression?”

“This behavior worries me, but I can’t put my finger on why.”

Send me the video so we can find out what your dog’s behavior has been trying to tell you.

This service is designed for behavior observation and analysis only. I am not a veterinarian and do not provide a veterinary diagnosis or emergency assistance.

If your dog has a bite history, please contact me via email before submitting your video for analysis:
