What if questioning the rules didn’t mean you were questioning Jesus?
Maybe you love God, but somewhere along the way, your relationship with Him became tangled with fear.
Fear of wearing the wrong thing.
Fear of making the wrong decision.
Fear of asking the wrong question.
Fear of disappointing God.
Fear that changing what you believe means you're walking away from your faith.
I understand—because I've been there.
Unlearning Holiness: Finding Jesus Beyond the Rules is my personal journey of examining beliefs I had carried for years and asking a difficult question:
“Did God actually say this—or is this simply what I was taught?”
This book isn't about rejecting Jesus.
It's about learning to separate Jesus from fear, shame, religious performance, people-pleasing, and expectations I once believed were required to be a “good Christian.”
Throughout these 20 chapters, I share the questions, struggles, realizations, and healing that came as I began reading Scripture differently, examining what I believed, learning to recognize the difference between conviction and conditioning, and developing a relationship with Jesus that became personal to me.
And I'm not writing as someone who has every answer.
I'm still learning.
Still growing.
Still healing.
Still seeking Jesus.
That's exactly why I wrote this book.
Because maybe you are too.
Inside this book, we'll talk about:
Appearance, modesty, and what holiness actually means
Religious rules vs. a genuine relationship with Jesus
Fear, shame, guilt, and spiritual performance
Learning to read Scripture without simply looking for confirmation of what you've always been taught
What happens when your beliefs change before your emotions do
Purity culture, shame, and healthy marital intimacy
Forgiving the people who taught you—even when some of those teachings hurt you
Spiritual anxiety and the fear of “missing God's will”
Learning to trust your own walk with God while remaining humble and teachable
Growing even when other people don't understand your growth
Finding Jesus on the other side of your questions
You'll also receive reflection questions, personal journal prompts, and prayers throughout the book to help you examine your own story instead of simply reading mine.
This book is for the woman who...
Loves Jesus but has questions she has been afraid to ask.
Feels guilty when she questions something she was taught in church.
Has struggled with religious fear, shame, perfectionism, or people-pleasing.
Wants to study Scripture for herself while remaining humble and teachable.
Is healing from beliefs that made God feel easier to disappoint than to approach.
Or simply wants a deeper, more honest relationship with Jesus.
You don't have to have every answer to keep seeking Him.
A note from Elizabeth
I didn't write this book because I stopped believing in Jesus.
I wrote it because I wanted to know Him beyond everything I had been told I was supposed to believe.
Some things I questioned became stronger.
Some things changed.
Some things I'm still studying.
But through every question, one thing became clearer:
I didn't lose Jesus. I found Him.
And I'm still finding Him.
