Home cooking has always been a huge part of my life. I come from the kind of family where all occasions were overdone. If ten people were coming for lunch, we cooked for forty.
This is something that I have enjoyed doing with my grandmother since I was a very small girl, and it has been very important to me to teach my own daughters how to cook well. Not only our family favourites, but basic staples and necessities.
It has been my plan all along, since returning home to the county. to offer knowledge and insight into the traditional skills my rural grandmother’s passed onto me as a child.
I am very happy to say that this will be the first of many digital food and lifestyle offerings,
the first of a long series. And whilst I am still drumming away at a coffee table print edition homestead guide and cookbook, I want to do it well, which is going to take some time. I have decided to start here.
There is something deeply therapeutic and romantic about a warm kitchen table and a home-cooked meal. Whether it is shared with friends or family, or even just for a cosy night in on your own.
Home cooked meals that you’ve made from scratch do something for the soul that quick fixes and takeaway meals simply cannot do. I think that the capacity to cook a hearty and complex home-cooked meal from scratch is one of life’s special skills.
There is something life-giving about watching the people you love, or are catering to, enjoy what you have prepared for them.
I hope that these recipes, a collection of our family favourites, foods that my girls love to run through the school door after school and munch on, will serve your families well.
Thank you for having us,
Camille and the girls.
