You don’t have to decide on surgery before using this toolkit. Start with the questions you want answered: Why is surgery an option for me? How often does this surgeon operate on people with Graves’ disease? What follow-up will I need afterward?
Bring the consultation sheet to your appointment and write down the surgeon’s answers. If you meet with a second surgeon, print a fresh copy. Use the comparison page to see where their answers differ and what you still want to ask.
If you move forward with surgery, the toolkit walks you through what comes next:
Before surgery: Record medication instructions, organize appointments, and prepare for your first days at home.
Before leaving the hospital: Write down your calcium plan, medication schedule, and after-hours phone number. Print an emergency card for the person helping you.
During recovery: Keep track of concerns about your voice, swallowing, or incision. Use the illustrated neck movement and scar care pages when your surgical team gives you clearance.
At follow-up: Keep your thyroid hormone dose, blood test results, and prescriber’s next steps together on one page.
You’ll receive one 70-page digital PDF. Read it on your device and print the worksheets you want to use. Start with the section that fits where you are today.
