but if you're planning to give birth without an epidural, one of the biggest questions is probably...
what am i actually going to DO when contractions start getting really painful?
because knowing you want an unmedicated birth and knowing how you're going to cope with contractions are two different things.
and that's exactly why i sat down and wrote this guide. i have seen too many women go into birth with "just" positive thinking and no real prep that helps them when labor gets real.
i'll never forget telling my midwife i wanted to give birth without an epidural. she smirked and said, "yeah, sure. that's what they all say, until it comes down to it."
and let me tell you, that comment lit a FIRE under me. π
if i'm being real, part of me was already wondering whether i'd actually be able to handle it. but i didn't let her comment scare me.
instead, i started researching everything. books, podcasts, birth classes, youtube videos. you name it.
i was learning SO much about birth.....but i still felt scared.
until i finally realized something.
i was spending all this time studying for birth when what i really needed to do was start practicing for it.
so i stopped just reading about breathing techniques and started actually practicing them.
i started learning how to reduce tension in my body and intentionally relax.
i practiced movement, different positions, and ways to keep myself from panicking when things got uncomfortable.
and that's when my confidence finally started to grow.
i've since had two births without an epidural, including one that happened unexpectedly fast (right in my bedroom)!
and one of the biggest things those experiences taught me is that you can't predict exactly how labor will happen.
but you CAN practice the skills you want to have available when you're in labor.
and that's why i can humbly say that my labor preparation guide is different from any birth prep out there.
it's designed to help you practice for birth instead of giving you more information.
instead of constantly wondering what else you need to research, you'll have practical breathing techniques, relaxation exercises, movement ideas to get baby into optimal position, and pain coping tools you can start getting familiar with during pregnancy.
