This Course will teach you everything you need to achieve your goals. As long as you follow the steps below your business will be successful, consider the following:
Step 1: Check Your Credit Reports
Get your free reports: You are entitled to a free credit report from each of the three major bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion—every week at AnnualCreditReport.com.
Look for errors: Check for accounts you didn't open, incorrect late payments, or balances that don't match your records.
Dispute inaccuracies: If you find an error, file a dispute with the credit bureau reporting it. They typically have 30 to 45 days to investigate and must remove unverified information.
Step 2: Master Your Payment History (35% of your score)
Pay on time, every time: This is the single most important factor. Even one payment that is 30 days late can drop your score significantly.
Set up Autopay: Enroll in automatic payments for at least the minimum amount due to avoid accidental misses.
Catch up on past-due accounts: If you're behind, get current as soon as possible. The impact of past late payments fades over time as you build a newer, positive history.
Step 3: Lower Your Credit Utilization (30% of your score)
The 30% Rule: Try to keep your credit card balances below 30% of your total credit limit. For example, if you have a $1,000 limit, keep your balance under $300.
Aim even lower: Those with the highest scores often keep utilization under 10%.
Pay twice a month: Making a payment before your statement "closes" can help a lower balance be reported to the bureaus.
Step 4: Build a Positive History (For thin files)
Secured Credit Cards: These require a cash deposit that acts as your credit limit. They are easier to get if you have no credit or a very low score.
Credit-Builder Loans: A "reverse loan" where you make payments into a locked savings account. The lender reports these payments to the bureaus, and you get the money at the end.
Become an Authorized User: Ask a family member with good credit to add you to their oldest credit card account. Their positive history on that card will then appear on your report.
Report Rent and Utilities: Use services like Experian Boost or other rent-reporting tools to get credit for bills you’re already paying.
