The VTCT Skills Level 1 Diploma – Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector is a nationally recognised qualification designed to introduce young people to the professional hair and beauty industry.

And they don't have to wait until the next academic year to begin.

We offer flexible enrolment throughout the year, subject to availability, making the programme suitable for young people who are looking for a more flexible approach to their education.

HOW THE COURSE WORKS

This programme has been designed to offer more flexibility than a traditional college timetable.

Rather than expecting every young person to learn in exactly the same way, the qualification combines practical salon education with flexible theory learning that can be completed from home with daily live educational sessions.

PRACTICAL LEARNING IN THE SALON

Students attend practical sessions at The Home of Danai (empowered salon education) in Dukinfield, where they'll develop their skills through guided, hands-on learning in a real working salon environment.

Practical sessions are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 4 students attending at one time with the majority of sessions being one to one.

This allows learners to ask questions, receive individual support and build their confidence without feeling lost within a large classroom environment.

Practical attendance will be arranged and agreed on as part of the learner's individual programme following enrolment.

FLEXIBLE LEARNING FROM HOME

Theory learning is completed flexibly through our online student area.

Students have access to pre-recorded lessons, learning resources and assignments which guide them through the theory elements of their qualification.

This gives learners greater flexibility to work around school, home education, family life and other commitments while continuing to make progress towards their qualification.

FLEXIBLE ENROLMENT

There is no need to wait until next September to begin.

We offer flexible enrolment throughout the year, subject to practical availability.

Once enrolled, we'll explain your individual starting point, learning schedule and practical attendance so both you know exactly what happens next.

HOW WILL THEY BE ASSESSED?

Assessment takes place throughout the qualification and includes:

✔ Practical observations

✔ Portfolio evidence and assignments

✔ Short online multiple-choice assessments where required

✔ Practical final assessments

✔ A final creative showcase

Students are supported throughout their qualification so they understand what is expected of them and can see the progress they are making.

Towards the end of their programme, learners complete any outstanding practical assessments using suitable models.

Models can be friends or family members, helping learners complete their assessments with someone they feel comfortable with.

A small £17 model fee applies to practical model sessions to contribute towards the products and materials used and this is paid by the model.

WHERE CAN THIS QUALIFICATION LEAD?

Successfully completing Level 1 gives learners a foundation from which they can begin progressing further within the hair and beauty industry.

Future progression could include:

• VTCT Skills Level 2 qualifications

• Level 2 Hairdressing

• Level 2 Beauty Therapy

• Nail Services

• Make-Up

• Hair & Beauty apprenticeships

• Further education within the sector

It also gives learners the opportunity to experience several different areas of hair and beauty before deciding which direction they may eventually want to specialise in.
