Tax-Ready Documents Checklist

Tax-Ready Documents Checklist

Tax season goes smoother when you walk in with everything in hand. This free one-page checklist lists the documents people commonly bring to a tax appointment, sorted into five sections so you can see at a glance what applies to you.

What's inside:

  • Personal information: IDs, Social Security cards, last year's return, and bank and childcare details

  • Income documents: W-2s, 1099 forms, Social Security, unemployment, rental, and investment income

  • Self-employed and business: income summary, receipts, mileage log, statements, equipment, and home office details

  • Deductions and credits: mortgage interest, tuition, student loan interest, charitable receipts, medical records, and property taxes

  • Health coverage: Marketplace Form 1095-A and HSA statements

How to use it: print it or keep it on your phone, check off each document as it arrives, and bring the page with you to your appointment. Skip anything that doesn't apply.

Not sure what applies to you? The checklist links to a free 15-minute Clarity Call with Melissa Thomas.

Educational checklist only. Not tax, legal, or financial advice. Your list may differ; your tax preparer can tell you which documents apply to you.
