CROWN JEWEL RING COURSE
For more than 50 years, I have worked at the bench developing and teaching the skills behind professional hand fabrication. The Crown Jewels Series Ring was designed specifically to train goldsmiths in those fundamentals.
I have used this ring as a skills test when interviewing goldsmiths who wanted to work with me. To date, I have yet to have an applicant successfully complete the ring to my standards.
That is because this ring was intentionally designed to expose weaknesses in your fabrication skills.
Throughout the course, you will work through challenges involving alloying, annealing, rolling, wire drawing, forming, fitting, soldering, bezel fabrication, stone setting, finishing, polishing, and controlling multiple metals throughout a complex hand-fabrication process.
You will learn how to:
• Pour sterling silver and 18K yellow gold ingots
• Roll ingots into properly prepared wire and sheet
• Anneal sterling silver and 18K yellow gold correctly
• Control fire scale during fabrication
• Draw and form wire accurately
• Create multiple silver and gold components from scratch
• Fabricate and fit bezels
• Prepare clean, precise solder joints
• Control solder flow around complex assemblies
• Work with sterling silver and 18K gold within the same piece
• Protect your metals from oxidation during soldering
• Fit and solder the 18K gold crown
• Set an oval gemstone
• Finish and polish the completed ring professionally
And those are only part of the skills involved.
The purpose of this course is not simply to teach you how to reproduce my Crown Jewel Ring. It is to teach you the hand-fabrication skills behind it so you can take those principles back to your own bench and apply them to your own work.
WHAT THIS TRAINING IS WORTH
I teach these skills through my in-person Skills Mastery training. The comparable 5-day in-person training is valued at $7,499.99 USD, based on the value of a subsidized six-month apprenticeship.
This online course gives you the opportunity to study the Crown Jewel Ring process directly from my bench without attending the in-person training.
You will be able to watch the complete fabrication process through detailed close-ups and multiple camera angles, pause when you need to study a technique, replay difficult sections, and work through the ring at your own pace.
You are not limited to watching me perform the process once. You can return to the training as you continue developing your skills.
