QUIET THE ALARM
You can still care about him without every change in him changing what happens inside you.
A message. Silence. A memory. Something you see online. A thought about what he might be doing.
And suddenly your whole system is reacting.
Your chest tightens. Your stomach drops. Your thoughts speed up. You feel anxious, agitated, sick, panicky or unable to think about much else.
You might understand exactly why this happens and still not be able to settle yourself when it actually does.

That would not be realistic.
The change is being able to notice the reaction without losing hours to it. To feel something without it deciding the rest of your day. To settle again without needing him to do something first.
You are not trying to become cold. You are not trying to stop caring. You are practising how to come back to yourself when your system gets knocked off-centre.
Knowing why somebody can come close and then pull away can make the pattern make sense.
But understanding the pattern and being able to respond differently when your body is already in alarm are not necessarily the same thing.
The work is not about sitting there analysing him again.
Cognitive Behavioral Hypnotherapy gives us a way to practise a different response, using focused attention, imagery, suggestion and mental rehearsal alongside cognitive and behavioral techniques.
Because knowing "I am safe enough to carry on with my day" when you feel calm is one thing. Being able to access that steadiness when the trigger has actually arrived is another.
Something happens and you notice the reaction sooner.
You can feel upset without the feeling swallowing the entire day.
You do not need an immediate reply, explanation or reassurance before you can begin settling yourself.
Your attention becomes available for ordinary life again.
The goal is not perfection. It is for the trigger to take less from you.
