DID YOU KNOW... ANYONE CAN LEARN TO PLAY THE DRUMS? 🥁
I get DMs every day from people just like yourself who have wanted to play and haven't gotten the chance to start.
I've heard all the fears and stories like...
"I'm too old."
"I'm uncoordinated."
"What if I can't learn?"
"I won't be any good."
And the list goes on....
In the 17 years I've been teaching, I've never come across a person who hasn't been able to learn. And I've taught kids as young as 3 and have had students into their late 70s. I've given lessons to a group of students, one of whom was deaf, non-verbal, and blind, one with high support needs, Autism, and another with Down Syndrome, and they went on to write music and form a band.
Everyone can learn and enjoy music; it's just a matter of finding the way that works for each of us.
Since I'm Neurospicy myself, I get how challenging it can be to find a way to learn that works for you and to build confidence. But trust me, if you're interested in the drums, you owe it to yourself to do it and really enjoy the process.
I'll be teaching you how to play in a way that's neurodivergent-friendly, fun, and encouraging. I've developed a specific method to simplify terms and concepts, so it's something that is easy to digest and grow with.
So if you're rocking with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, or other neuro-differences, you'll be in great hands. My superpower is making information simple and sticky so it makes its way in, working with your brain, not against it.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
It's 2 hours live over Zoom where you'll get to learn the foundations of drumming in a way that's neurodivergent-friendly, fun, and encouraging. I've developed a specific method to simplify terms and concepts, so it's something that is easy to digest and grow with. And you can show up with spatulas and pillows to get started and see if drums is something you enjoy before taking to the next level.
WHO'S IT FOR?
This workshop is for people ages 7 and up (and we tend to have quite a few people who are 50+ in our workshops!). You don't need any experience or equipment, just a desire to learn and have fun.

TOPICS
Myth Busting: We'll bust some common myths about drumming that hold people back from starting and sticking with it.
Beginning Technique: How to sit, hold your sticks (if you're using something else, that's totally ok), how to breathe, and expend your energy.
The Main Three Drums: I'll teach you about the Kick, Snare, and Hi-Hat and show you how to get started with each.
How to Count Out Beats and Write Them: I'll show you how beats work and how to count and visualise them so you can keep track as you go.
Simple Grooves to Get Started: I'll show you simple grooves that use each drum and how to start playing along to some of your favourite songs.
Enjoyment Mindset: How to learn without comparing yourself to others and getting frustrated so you can really enjoy learning an amazing instrument.
Questions: At the end, I'll spend 20 minutes answering questions from the group

I developed my DFS method during the 17 years I've been teaching. After being a professional drummer for the last decade for artists like The Pet Shop Boys, Zara Larsson, Becky Hill, and more, I decided last year to get my PhD exploring the connection between drums and well-being.
I just finished my first study where we used my DFS methodology to teach 16 people drums of varying neuro-types in a month, and it was a resounding success.

We were all blown away by how much improvement they made in just 6 hours of lessons with me using my method.
Currently, I'm analysing the data on how the physical aspects of drumming impact well-being. And once it's finished, we'll have better insight into some of its benefits.
When you join my Intro Workshop, you'll get the same science-backed methodology I've been using to help people excel in a way that supports learning, well-being, and is joy-filled.
Stress Relief: Recent grads have said sessions and practice create a focus zone that allows them to be present and mindful. They "looked forward to sessions" and noticed that having the booked in time to be in their body learning something new helped them destress in other parts of their life and regulate their nervous system.
Focus Boost: Grads said when the type of learning and focus required was paired with the physical aspects of teaching your body to move in different ways, they noticed it helped their focus both inside and outside of lessons.
Enhanced Confidence: Multiple grads said the process of learning the drums was humbling and rewarding. By having multiple opportunities to try something, "fail," then come back to it and get it, gave them a huge boost in confidence, they said it translated to multiple areas of their life. It reminded them that they can do hard things and are more resilient than they think.
Better Coordination: Many grads shared noticing their coordination improved in "surprising ways." They noticed better balance between their left and right side and positive changes to their ability to do fine motor tasks like the small movements directing a horse with reins.
Improved Mood: The majority of grads shared overall benefits to their mood and other social resilience factors. They shared how the repetition, music, and fun of working with me made them feel more buoyant both during and after the program.
I struggled a lot as a kid with abuse and low self-esteem, and again in my 20s with mental health. The drums gave me a sense of purpose, means of expression, and a sense of self-worth I desperately needed and still need. I know they are a powerful tool for helping people, but so often they are gate-kept by a toxic dude-bro industry that can exclude the people who need them the most.
My vision, between playing, teaching, creating social content, and my PhD, is to highlight their benefits and make them accessible for everyday people. I want to build programs and initiatives that bring them to schools, therapeutic spaces, and mental wards (like I was on) so people can develop that sense of confidence, pride, and joy in self-expression.
I believe we can build a powerful community of heart-centred humans who can connect with the instrument and with others in generative ways.
When you support my work in any way, you are supporting this vision and my relentless drive to reshape music education to one that is joy-filled and person-centred.
I believe in you, and I'm excited to see what you do next.
What if the timing doesn't work for me? Since I'm based in the UK, it's very possible that the timing may or may not be optimal. The session will be recorded if you can't make it live. I might be offering more times in the future, but I'm not 100% sure about it. But I'll do my best.
What if I have a drum kit? That's great, we'll only be using three of the drums. You don't need them to get started, but if you have them and want to use them, that works too.
Will I get personalised feedback? No, because this is designed to teach many people at once. However, I'll go over what to listen for and be able to see your screens so there might be something that I say that will apply to you.
What if I have a Question? There will be a question and answer section at the end. You'll be able to add your question to the chat and I'll get to as many as I can. No promises I'll get to all of them, but I'll do my best.
I can't wait to share the joy of learning the drums! It's never too late to get started.
