About me:

I'm a writer, musician, teacher, and mother. After a decade as a singer-songwriter ("the neo-Stevie Nicks" The New York Times), I earned my MFA from The Brooklyn Writers Foundry. Most recently, I've been a frequent contributor to Suleika Jaouad's The Isolation Journals, with two essays and accompanying writing prompts (one co-written with my son, Lou) featured in the instant bestseller,The Book of Alchemy: A Creative Practice for an Inspired Life, alongside Elizabeth Gilbert, Sharon Salzberg, Gloria Steinem, and others. I've also written for Mother Tongue, Dossier, Cup of Jo, Parents, and was a contributing writer at Departures. My newsletter, Resilience, hit the Top 100 in Rising Culture on Substack.

I've been profiled on multiple platforms such as Allure's "Dispelling Beauty Myths" series (17M views), New York Family (cover story), Style Like U, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, The Glow, Mother, and the podcast So, Life Wants You Dead. Tagged as "one of music's hippest chicks" alongside Florence & the Machine in Page Six, I was also named one ofThe Village Voice's most stylish New Yorkers, with critical acclaim in music outlets such as Magnet, Nylon, and Bust.

On a personal note, I'm a cancer mom to my son, Lou (a two-time survivor), a breast cancer survivor myself, and an advocate. I'm also a Buddhist practitioner and student in the Vajrayana tradition. I love lipstick, beautiful dresses, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Those things are important, too! A native New Yorker, I live upstate in Tivoli, NY with my partner and twin sons. I'm working on my first book, new music, and mentoring writers like you.

"Alexa rocked my writing world. She has a unique ability to look at the big picture and the small details. When we began working together, I had very little structure or understanding of what I was doing. Alexa, was able to shape, support and enliven my process so that by the end of our time together I had a tangible, clear and workable piece of writing. Alexa is a present, creative and delightful book doula and I feel truly lucky I had her on my side and by my side the whole time."

"Alexa has unlocked a creativity that had been dormant within me for a decade. It has excavated my soul, unleashing a connection to myself and my life that I didn’t realize was missing. Alexa has a beautiful way of helping you lean into storytelling while processing intense topics. Her poignant notes, verbal whimsies, and inspiring way of being lead you to approach your writing—and your own life—in the most playful of ways. By the end of Week 1, you’ll find yourself blithely analyzing language and beginning to piece together narrative in fantastical, down-the-rabbit-hole kinds of ways. Alexa has breathed life back into mine, helping me see that even the smallest moments bear fruit and are worthy of bringing pen to paper.”

"Alexa holds such a beautiful and brave space...she is a wise and generous teacher. From the first session, I felt at ease and it was clear I was in a safe container to jumpstart my writing practice. I have always been a shy writer, reluctant to even call myself a writer, but with Alexa's thoughtful guidance, humor, and compassion I found that I was able to push through some of the fears I have and trust the process of writing."

"...one of the most meaningful gifts I have given myself in a long while. Alexa tended to my heart and artist soul, wisely, nourishingly, observantly, and skillfully, generously sharing her spiritual and literary knowledge as well as hard-won human experience. She cultivated an incredibly supportive atmosphere for people of different backgrounds to share their most honest selves, as well as kindled and facilitated deep discussions. It helped me write, helped me choreograph, helped me create."

Working with Alexa to open my mind and heart to understanding I AM A WRITER! was the best investment I've made in my creative self. She gets to know you - your dreams and wishes - and helps you see the path to them in a practical yet magical way. She is caring and gives her people a safe and nurturing space to ensure you can show up as your best self. I cannot recommend working with Alexa enough!

Working with Alexa has been one of the best investments I have ever made into myself. I didn't know it initially, but what grew from a small project with definitive borders and an end date resulted in my becoming an actual PUBLISHED writer, one with discipline and the confidence to continue to show up, with many pieces of my story to tell. This was the ultimate gift to myself and the true definition of self-care.

I went from never writing at all to writing an almost 500-page experimental draft. It felt like a Herculean ask to have anyone else jump into the weeds with me. But Alexa wasn’t fazed. She was excited, confident, and methodical in her approach to tackling the big picture and broad strokes, while also giving real sensitivity and time to the details and more intimate moments. She referred to our mentorship as a customized MFA, and that was exactly what I needed. She offered me readings and continual feedback that expanded my understanding of story structure and the different ways we can go about creating. She has a treasure trove of knowledge that spans far beyond traditional literature, which I especially appreciated as a visual artist myself. What a gift it was to work with her. I still can’t believe how much ground we covered, not only through all the parts and pages, but also by touching on important philosophical and spiritual themes. She prepared me as best she could, with humor and experience, for how long, winding, and intense writing a book can be, reminding me that it is a daily practice and a way of getting to the heart of things that need to be said and felt. I couldn’t recommend working with her more.
