I am building something exciting, a writing education and community platform that I wish I had when I was first starting out: Story Brain Academy.

I love helping writers (that's you!) reach their goals, without breaking the bank, and I am developing a cost-effective way for emerging writers like you to learn in a welcoming environment with an instructor who cares. I will still offer longer-classes, writing sprints, etc, but this is a place for folks who want to go slow and steady and keep working on their craft month after month. Does that sound like you? Yes? OK, so here's my plan.

Each month I will offer a series of classes, some of which will be lecture-based (class-y-classes) and some will be workshop-based (hands on, live participation and feedback). The members of the group can help dictate what courses I teach. This is for you, after-all. Each month I'll survey the members to prepare for the next month's classes. You get to take charge of your development as a writer and your career by choosing what you learn to round out your skills as a writer. Think of it as "Your MFA, your way."

Concurrent with this, I'll run longer programs that members can opt-into at a discount, but this community is an opportunity for more ever-green ongoing support and a way to dig into the craft in depth. If you need a deep dive on structure, how to write the perfect cold-open, how to strengthen voice in your dialogue, we can do that here! Rather than a blanket class that teaches you a little about a lot, I'd rather teach you a lot about each topic, one at a time until you are screenwriting masters!

I'll need your help with this! I want to develop my courses with active input from the students who need them! My name is Alicia Carroll, I'm a TV Writer, Playwright, and Writing Instructor who has been helping writers like yourself improve their TV pilots and craft skills for the past 4 years at places like The Writing Pad, Writing Workshops and Sundance Collab. I broke into the industry without connections or a financial safety net, and I'm on a mission to help others do the same! I studied TV Writing and Production at Emerson College and. without the funds for an MFA, hit the books and put in my 10,000 hours to get where I am today--a professional TV writer and WGA Captain who never stops trying to improve their craft. I worked my way up for several years before writing professionally and have done every job under the sun. I've been a PA, a story analyst, a script reader, a competition judge, agency assistant and writer's assistant and more. I've also done fellowships, written in multiple mediums and genres, for broadcast networks and streamers, and and am ready to give others the benefit of my experience. No gatekeeping here. I'm sharing what I've learned with others so that they can reach their dreams that much quicker. My philosophy as an instructor is simple - every writer has a different story brain, so every writer understands and applies the principles of story in their own unique way. My job is to help you find what works for you and your voice.
