Starting solids can feel like a lot to navigate. Purées or baby-led weaning? Are they ready yet? How do we get from purées to table foods? How do I know what foods to give my baby and when? What do I do if my baby gags? You don't have to figure this out alone, or spend your nights googling, sorting through different opinions online, or trying to find that one specific video you swore you saved. Maybe you feel the pressure to believe there's only one "right" way to start solids. Here's the truth: almost nothing about raising a baby is one-size-fits-all, and starting solids is no different.

I'm Colleen Sarrazin, M.S., CCC-SLP, a pediatric feeding therapist with 12+ years experience helping families navigate starting solids, and a mom who's walked this exact journey with my own daughters. Everything in this guide is evidence-based and what I actually use with my clients and at home, broken down into a clear, jump-in-where-you-need-it resource. This guide answers all of your questions and more, to make your baby's transition to solids as smooth and joyful as possible, while saving you hours of stress trying to figure it out alone.

What's inside:

  • Getting ready activities, readiness signs, and how to set up a safe eating space

  • The full roadmap for starting solids with purées, baby-led weaning, and combo paths, helping you find what's right for you and your baby

  • My top recommendations for high chairs, spoons, and more

  • A texture progression ladder, showing you how to get from smooth purées to table foods, including how to prepare each texture, and signs to look for to know when your baby is ready to move up textures

  • Common mistakes and how to avoid or fix them

  • Choking vs. gagging, explained clearly so you know what to do

  • Allergen introduction, made simple

  • Troubleshooting for the common rough patches

  • Early picky eating prevention

There is no one right feeding approach for all babies or families. This guide meets you wherever you're starting from and tells you exactly what to do next, as your calm, confident companion for starting solids.

Colleen Sarrazin, M.S., CCC-SLP is a licensed speech-language pathologist and pediatric feeding therapist. However:

  • Purchasing or using the Materials does not create a clinician–client, therapist–patient, or professional relationship of any kind between you and Colleen Sarrazin, Babblebites, or The Floco Company, LLC.

  • The Materials do not constitute the practice of speech-language pathology, feeding therapy, medicine, or dietetics, and are not tailored to your individual child.

  • The Materials are written for neurotypical infants without known feeding, swallowing, medical, or developmental concerns.

Always consult your child's pediatrician, registered dietitian, or a licensed feeding therapist before introducing solid foods, introducing allergens, changing textures, or acting on any suggestion in the Materials — and especially if your child was born prematurely, has any medical or developmental diagnosis, has a known or suspected food allergy, or has any history of feeding, swallowing, breathing, or growth difficulty.

In an emergency, including a choking or allergic-reaction emergency, call 911 (or your local emergency number) immediately. Do not consult the Materials.

We strongly encourage all caregivers to complete an in-person or virtual infant CPR and choking-relief course.

10. No Guarantee of Outcomes

Every baby develops differently. We make no representation, warranty, or guarantee that following the Materials will produce any particular result — including but not limited to acceptance of foods, progression through textures, prevention of picky eating, prevention of food allergy, weight gain, or any developmental milestone.

Your results depend on factors outside our knowledge and control.

11. Assumption of Risk

Feeding an infant carries inherent risks, including gagging, choking, and allergic reaction. You acknowledge that you are solely responsible for supervising your child at all times during feeding, for evaluating whether any suggestion in the Materials is appropriate for your individual child, and for consulting your child's healthcare provider.

You assume full responsibility for any decisions you make based on the Materials.

12. Affiliate Links and Third-Party Products

The Materials contain affiliate links to third-party products. If you purchase through those links, Babblebites may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

Product recommendations reflect Colleen's genuine professional opinion and are not influenced by commission. However, Babblebites does not manufacture, sell, test, or warrant any third-party product and is not responsible for the safety, quality, availability, pricing, or performance of any product, website, or service linked in the Materials. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions, age guidance, and safety warnings for any product you use.

Third-party links may change or expire over time.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Floco Company, LLC, Babblebites, Colleen Sarrazin, and their respective officers, members, employees, and contractors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your purchase or use of the Materials, or your reliance on any information within them.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising from or related to the Materials shall not exceed the amount you actually paid for them.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Floco Company, LLC, Babblebites, and Colleen Sarrazin from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Materials.

15. Updates to the Materials

We may update, revise, or correct the Materials from time to time. We are not obligated to provide updated versions to prior purchasers, though we may choose to do so at our discretion.

We may also update these Terms. The version in effect at the time of your purchase governs that purchase.

16. Termination

17. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions.
