Water Keeper — Ethics of AI Alchemical in Mental Health

by Dr. Darleen Claire Wodzenski

Your clients are already using AI. Are you ready? In April 2024, NBCC released Ethical Principles for Artificial Intelligence in Counseling — an official supplement to the NBCC Code of Ethics. This training gives you the clinical framework, ethical tools, and practical protocols to apply those principles confidently in your practice — before your colleagues have even read them.

Built on proprietary clinical frameworks and delivered by a credentialed clinician, Water Keeper is among the most clinically rigorous live synchronous AI ethics CE offerings in the NBCC marketplace — arriving at the exact moment it matters most. Participants leave with a complete clinical toolkit: documentation language templates, session scripts, risk management templates, ethical decision frameworks, and 10 AI clinical case studies with intervention and documentation language for each.

Orchard Human Services, Inc. has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7260. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Orchard Human Services, Inc. is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Identify and categorize five types of AI applications in clinical practice and apply risk-tiering criteria to each.

2. Analyze ten documented cases of AI harm to clients and apply appropriate clinical intervention and documentation language.

3. Apply the NBCC Ethical Principles for Artificial Intelligence in Counseling, the WHO Six Principles for AI in mental health, and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (Govern · Map · Measure · Manage) to clinical governance decisions.

4. Utilize the Eight Clinical Hazard Categories (A–H) and the AI Authority Spectrum to assess AI risk in your specific practice setting.

5. Construct an AI-informed informed consent process, intake protocol, and Mental Status Exam that meets current ethical and regulatory standards.

6. Apply the Fluid Trauma™ AI Protocol to assess and protect vulnerable populations — including youth — from AI-related clinical harm.
