What’s Inside More Than Weightloss

created by Kim Hynes @emotionaleatskim

Think of this 156 page guide as you and me sitting down over coffee and talking about all the things I wish someone had explained to me when my body started changing in midlife.

I’m sharing my own story, what I’ve learned personally and professionally, and the pieces I eventually realized were connected. Because weight, cravings, emotional eating, hormones, sleep, stress, blood sugar, exercise, and how you feel about your body aren’t separate conversations. They’re all happening in the same body.

Inside, we’ll talk about:

  • Why dieting can feel so different in midlife. We’ll look at the diet mentality, restriction, and why simply eating less and exercising more may not address what is actually going on.

  • Emotional eating and afternoon and evening cravings. You’ll start looking beyond the food to understand what may be driving the urge to eat, especially during those times of day when you feel tired, stressed, overwhelmed, or like you just need something.

  • Sugar, cravings, and feeling out of control around certain foods. We’ll talk about whether you really need to “give up sugar,” why restriction can sometimes make the pull toward sugar even stronger, and how to begin changing your relationship with it.

  • Menopause and your changing hormones. We’ll talk about estrogen, progesterone, midlife symptoms, body composition, sleep, blood sugar, hunger, energy, and why hormones can be one important piece of the bigger picture.

  • Blood sugar, insulin, metabolism, and metabolic health. You’ll learn why I stopped looking only at weight and started paying attention to what was happening inside my body, including blood sugar, A1C, fasting insulin, thyroid, cholesterol, triglycerides, hormones, and other health markers.

  • Weight loss versus metabolic health. We’ll look at why losing pounds isn't the only measure of progress and why building a healthier body can sometimes mean looking beyond the scale.

  • The scale and body image. We’ll talk about how to use the scale differently, or decide whether it belongs in your life at all, while also working on how you see and speak to your changing body. The scale can tell you your weight, but it can't tell you whether you're stronger, sleeping better, experiencing fewer cravings, improving your blood sugar, or finding more peace around food.

  • Exercise, muscle, walking, weight loss, and longevity. We’ll move beyond exercising simply to burn calories and talk about movement as part of building a strong, healthy body for the years ahead.

  • Sleep and why it matters more than you may realize. We’ll connect sleep with hunger, cravings, stress, energy, and health and look at simple habits that can support better sleep.

  • Stress and your nervous system. We’ll talk about what happens when you spend your days running, doing, worrying, and taking care of everyone else, and why calming your nervous system belongs in a conversation about food, health, and weight.

  • EFT tapping. I’ll introduce you to one of the tools I use for stress and emotional eating, and I’ve even included a tapping experience so you can actually try it with me rather than just read about it.

  • Alcohol and midlife health. Without judgment or telling you what you “should” do, I’ll help you get curious about how alcohol may be affecting your eating, sleep, body, emotions, and health goals.

  • Perfectionism, people-pleasing, and boundaries. Because sometimes what looks like a food problem is connected to how much you’re carrying, how hard you are on yourself, and how often you put yourself last.

  • Morning routines and the small habits that shape your day. We’ll look at realistic ways to begin your day that support your energy, stress, sleep, and overall health.

  • Gut health and supplements. We’ll talk about what I learned when I stopped treating symptoms as isolated problems and started getting curious about what my own body needed.

  • How to advocate for yourself. I want you to feel more comfortable asking questions, understanding your own health information, talking with your healthcare providers, and speaking up when you know you don’t feel like yourself.

And I don’t want you to simply read this guide and put it away.

Throughout More Than Weightloss, I’ve included action steps and reflection questions to help you take what you’re learning and apply it to your own life. This isn’t about changing everything overnight. It’s about figuring out what your body may need and deciding what makes sense for you.

I’ve also connected relevant episodes of the Emotional Eats Podcast throughout the guide, so when you want to go deeper into a subject, you can grab your coffee, put in your earbuds, and keep the conversation going with me.

By the time you finish, my hope is that you understand something I wish I had understood much earlier:

Your midlife body is not a math equation to solve with less food and more exercise.

There are so many pieces worth paying attention to. And when you begin connecting those pieces and supporting your health as a whole, you can work toward better energy, better metabolic health, a more peaceful relationship with food, greater confidence in your body, and yes, potentially sustainable weight loss too.

20 Cups (Chapters). One big conversation about your health, your body, your relationship with food, and how you want to feel in the years ahead.

When you purchase this guide, you will also receive the updated versions for free even if the price has changed.
