How to Sand Veneer Without Damage
Sanding veneer is one of the fastest ways to permanently ruin a piece of furniture, and most people don’t realize they’re doing it wrong until it’s too late.
Veneer isn’t solid wood. It doesn’t give you second chances. Once you sand through it, there’s no fixing it, no blending it, and no hiding it later with finish.
This PDF walks you through the exact sanding approach I use on veneered furniture so I don’t destroy it while still getting clean, professional results. It’s the same process I rely on for resale pieces, not a theoretical “be careful” explanation.
Inside this guide, you’ll learn:
How to tell when you’re working with veneer (before it’s too late)
Which grits are actually safe to use
Where most people accidentally sand through
How much pressure is too much
When to stop sanding instead of “just one more pass”
What to do if you’ve already gone too far
If you’ve ever hesitated mid-sand because you weren’t sure if you were about to blow through the surface, this removes that uncertainty. You’ll know exactly what you’re looking at and what to do next.
This is a short, practical reference you can pull up before you touch a sander, especially on older or higher-risk pieces where mistakes are expensive.
