the art of settling - step by step training guide

the art of settling - step by step training guide

CA$27.97

does your dog struggle to just… do nothing? They can walk for hours and still come home wired.

Sitting on a patio means whining, pacing, staring at everything around them or constantly needing your attention.

the art of settling is for dogs who struggle to switch off and owners who aren’t sure how to actually teach them.

inside, i walk you through the settling process i teach in person to my clients step by step so you know what to do,

what to reward and when to make things easier.

you’ll learn:

• why some dogs struggle to settle in the first place
• how arousal and being over threshold can affect your dog’s ability to relax
• how to set up your first settling session
• a minute-by-minute guide so you know exactly what to do throughout your session
• how to read your dog’s body language
• what calm behaviour actually looks like
• exactly what you should be rewarding
• when NOT to reward
• what to do about whining, pacing and constantly looking for your attention
• how to build duration without your dog waiting for the next treat
• how to know when the environment is too difficult
• how to gradually take the skill into more distracting environments
• how to use settling at parks, patios, cafés, sporting events and in everyday life
• common mistakes that can accidentally make settling harder
• troubleshooting for when things aren’t going as planned

this isn’t about expecting your dog to lie perfectly still or never get excited.

it’s about teaching them the skill of being able to come back down, relax and exist in the world without always needing to be doing something.

because for some dogs, running, playing and being busy comes naturally.

doing absolutely nothing?

that’s the part we actually have to teach.

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS OF USE CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THIS WEBSITE OR PURCHASING

By using the website, you signify your consent to these terms of use. If you do not agree to these Terms of Use, please do not use the website.

Please read these terms carefully before purchasing or using any Party Paws digital dog training product.

By purchasing, downloading, accessing, or using a Party Paws digital product, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms.

  1. EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY

All Party Paws digital products, including guides, PDFs, videos, training plans, exercises, worksheets, and other materials, are provided for general educational and informational purposes only.

Digital products are not individualized dog training, behavioural assessments, veterinary advice, medical advice, or a substitute for working directly with an appropriately qualified professional when individual assistance is required.

Purchasing or using a Party Paws digital product does not create an individualized trainer/client relationship between you and Party Paws.

Party Paws has not personally assessed you, your dog, your dog's behaviour, your dog's health, your training environment, your equipment, or your individual circumstances through the purchase of a digital product.

  1. EVERY DOG IS DIFFERENT

Every dog is an individual and may respond differently to training.

Party Paws cannot guarantee that any exercise, method, recommendation, training technique, environment, or piece of equipment discussed in a digital product will be appropriate, effective, or safe for every dog or every situation.

Dogs are animals and their behaviour can be unpredictable, even when training instructions are followed correctly.

You are responsible for using your own judgment and determining whether the information provided is appropriate for you and your individual dog.

  1. YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

You are responsible for your dog and their behaviour, supervision, handling, management, and safety at all times.

You are responsible for deciding whether and how to implement the educational information provided by Party Paws.

You are also responsible for choosing appropriate training environments, maintaining appropriate control of your dog, safely and correctly using equipment, following applicable laws and bylaws, and determining whether you are physically and practically capable of safely performing an exercise.

Never continue an exercise simply because it appears in a Party Paws product.

If an exercise, training method, environment, activity, or piece of equipment appears unsafe or inappropriate for you or your dog, stop immediately.

  1. INHERENT RISKS OF DOG TRAINING

You understand and acknowledge that interacting with, handling, exercising, and training dogs involves inherent and sometimes unpredictable risks.

These risks may include, but are not limited to:

Bites, scratches, falls, trips, pulling, leash related injuries, sudden movement, escape, interactions or conflicts with people or other animals, property damage, behavioural reactions, and other injuries or losses.

Environmental conditions and interactions with dogs, people, children, wildlife, vehicles, equipment, public spaces, and other surroundings may create additional risks.

Dogs may react differently than expected even when instructions are followed correctly.

By voluntarily choosing to implement information contained in a Party Paws digital product, you acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with handling and training your dog.

  1. REACTIVE, FEARFUL OR AGGRESSIVE DOGS

Some Party Paws products may contain educational information relating to reactivity, fear, anxiety, frustration, excitement, arousal, aggression, or other behavioural challenges.

General educational information cannot replace an individualized assessment when significant behavioural or safety concerns are present.

If your dog has bitten or attempted to bite a person or animal, has a history of aggression, severe fear, escape behaviour, or presents a risk of serious injury, seek individualized professional assistance before attempting exercises that could expose your dog to known triggers or potentially unsafe situations.

Never force your dog to remain in an environment or situation that you cannot safely manage.

If your dog becomes increasingly distressed, panicked, aggressive, difficult to control, or attempts to escape during an exercise, stop the exercise and create appropriate distance from the situation.

  1. TRAINING EQUIPMENT

Party Paws digital products may discuss, recommend, or demonstrate dog training equipment.

You are responsible for determining whether any equipment is appropriate for your individual dog and for ensuring that equipment is correctly fitted, maintained, and used safely.

Follow applicable laws, manufacturer instructions, and appropriate safety precautions when using equipment.

If you do not know how to safely use a piece of equipment, seek appropriate professional instruction before using it.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Party Paws is not responsible for injury or damage caused by improper fitting, modification, failure, misuse, or inappropriate use of equipment.

  1. TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS

Some Party Paws products may suggest practising training around distractions, outdoors, in public spaces, or in other real life environments.

A suggested training progression is not an instruction to place your dog into an environment they cannot safely handle.

You are responsible for determining whether an environment is appropriate for your dog's current behaviour, abilities, and training level.

You are responsible for complying with applicable leash laws, bylaws, property rules, park regulations, and other legal requirements.

If you cannot safely manage your dog in an environment, do not continue the exercise in that environment.

  1. VETERINARY & MEDICAL DISCLAIMER

Party Paws digital products do not provide veterinary or medical advice.

Behavioural changes may sometimes be associated with pain, illness, injury, medication, neurological conditions, or other health concerns.

If you have concerns about your dog's physical or behavioural health, consult an appropriately qualified veterinary professional.

Do not delay seeking veterinary care because of information contained in a Party Paws product.

  1. NO GUARANTEE OF RESULTS

Party Paws does not guarantee any specific training, behavioural, or other outcome from the use of its digital products.

Results vary between dogs and handlers and can depend on factors including the individual dog, environment, training history, health, consistency, timing, management, and how the information is implemented.

No statement, example, testimonial, demonstration, photograph, video, or description of another dog's progress should be interpreted as a promise that your dog will achieve the same result.

  1. ASSUMPTION OF RISK

You voluntarily choose whether and how to use the information provided in Party Paws digital products.

By choosing to implement the information, you acknowledge the inherent risks associated with interacting with, handling, and training dogs and accept responsibility for taking reasonable precautions appropriate to you, your dog, and your circumstances.
