PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Most clinicians can tell when a teen client is stuck — they just haven't been taught to name it or act on it. This session introduces a four-point framework for spotting stalled progress, then walks through the NASW ethics standards — competence, commitment to clients, informed consent — that determine whether to continue, adjust, or refer. Participants leave with language for making that shift with a teen and their caregivers without breaking the alliance.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Identify four clinical indicators — treatment plan stagnation, repetitive session content, unchanged standardized measures, and unchanged real-world functioning — that signal a teen client's care needs reassessment.
Apply NASW Code of Ethics standards on competence and commitment to clients to decide whether to continue, modify, or refer a stalled case.
Communicate a modality shift to a teen client and their caregivers — meeting informed consent obligations — in a way that transitions or terminates services without rupturing the therapeutic alliance.
