Want to know how to write queer stories, but don't know where to start? Confused over how to market yourself and let people know your work and your writing? If so, join me, Jack Strange, author of M/M queer romances with HarperCollins, as I go in depth on how to write queer stories and start marketing yourself and your work - to agents, publishers, and readers alike!
The session will take place via Google Meet. An invite will be sent to you.
In the session, currently planned to be 2 and a half hours long, we will look at:
the importance of queer literature and storytelling
avoiding stereotypes and writing mindfully
career discussions - which publisher, which agent, self-publishing.
marketing yourself
Writing queer stories can be a lot of fun, but they come with a responsibility and their own unique challenges. Publishing is changing, but still has work to do on publishing diverse voices.
The session is designed to be realistic, encouraging and inspiring. We are all here to learn from one another and develop one another, under my guidance and support. With advice, knowledge and practical prompts, I hope you'll leave with a better understanding of where you can position yourself in the world of books.
Due to the class size, personal and in-depth feedback on current works produced outside of the two-hour slot might not be possible. I offer 1-2-1 writing coaching, which is an opportunity to work with you personally on your writing and your career goals. Any creative writing in this session encourages you to think of something new, which you can later apply to your current or future works.
About me:
I am a traditionally published author with HarperCollins. My debut novel, Look Up, Handsome is an M/M Christmas romance. My second romcom is titled 25 Days in Athens. I have studied English Literature and Creative Writing at BA level, as well as an MA in Creative Writing and Education. I am currently writing a gay horror. With my experience of writing and publishing queer stories, and my experience in studying and learning the craft, I am able to guide you appropriately and encourage you to write your stories well and authentically.
