Join me for a two-day masterclass where you'll learn to coil a Woman Vessel.
I'll share what I've found helpful in my own journey with clay, along with knowledge passed to me from masters of the craft — with gratitude to the women potters of the Taounate area in the Rif Mountains of Morocco. Together we'll explore the making process of this shape, which uses coiling in a variety of ways.
What you'll make
Under my guidance, you'll create your own iteration of the Woman Vessel pictured above. This shape teaches you how to build asymmetrical curves, change direction as you work up a coil pot, and form a narrow neck.
The examples shown below are my own iterations of the form. They're here only for reference, to show how far this curve can go.
Who it's for
No previous experience needed — we'll cover the fundamentals of coiling: clay preparation, making coils, and attaching them to build a pot.
Advanced students will get just as much from it: you're welcome to move on to more advanced iterations involving horizontal coiling and bellying out a form.
By the end, these skills will stay with you, hopefully expanding the range of forms you're able to create as you continue with clay.

Your work will be fired for you; collection is arranged later via email
These shapes need a very slow drying cycle so the clay shrinks evenly and doesn't crack — so please allow around 8 weeks before your piece is fired and ready to collect
