The whole journey, from the very first coil of your Woman Vessel to building an advanced form exactly as you imagine it. Both masterclasses, taken together the way they're really meant to be done, at your own pace and on your own time.
This is the full arc of the practice, in one place. In Level 1 you'll learn to coil your own Woman Vessel from the base up, and find that grounding, hands-in-the-earth conversation with the clay that the whole practice rests on. In Level 2 you'll learn to lead that conversation, planning a specific, more advanced form and building it with real precision from a blueprint.
You begin by learning to follow the clay, and you finish by learning to shape it on purpose. And because the second part is built so directly on the first, working through them together is honestly the deepest way to learn all of this, and the best value I'm able to offer. With the recordings, you can move at whatever pace suits you, pause where you need to, and return to any part as often as it takes for it to truly settle in your hands.
Taking both together saves you £56 compared to booking each on its own. If you wish to participate live on one level and through a recording on the other please email info@karinasmagulova.com for a personalised bundle.
What you will learn
How to form asymmetrical curves and change direction whilst coiling
How to keep balance in asymmetry
How to refine a narrow neck and the surface of your pieces
How to read the clay through coiling, knowing when to pause, how to prepare your piece for firing in order to avoid cracks forming down the line and more tricks I use in my practice day to day
Horizontal coiling and bellying out, that will expand the range of the forms you can try in your practice thereafter
How to plan the size and proportions of a piece in advance, and actually build the form you intended
How to work from a dimensioned blueprint to bring a specific, more advanced shape to life as precisely as possible
How to keep control of gravity and the behaviour of the material as the form grows, so it holds rather than collapses
How to refine and finish an advanced form so it carries what you set out to say with it
The planning and problem-solving habits I lean on to make my own larger, more intentional pieces
The four days
Day 1, November 24 - Initial Q&A and understanding what our particular group needs. Reading the blueprint and planning your form before we begin. Preparing bases and coils for a more demanding build. Starting the walls with the finished shape already held in mind.
Day 2, November 25 - Continued building toward the planned form. Holding control of gravity and direction through the trickier stages. Refining the neck and the surface. Finishing in a way that draws the whole intended piece together. Final Q&A, making sure everything we've covered has truly settled.
Day 3, December 8 - Q&A and understanding what our particular group needs. Reading the blueprint and planning your form before we begin. Preparing bases and coils for a more demanding build. Starting the walls with the finished shape already held in mind.
Day 4, December 9 - Continued building toward the planned form. Holding control of gravity and direction through the trickier stages. Refining the neck and the surface. Finishing in a way that draws the whole intended piece together. Final Q&A, making sure everything we've covered has truly settled.
