Elevated Essentials: Paint, Stains and Floors

Elevated Essentials: Paint, Stains and Floors

$8

My design style is organic modern, warm, grounded, and rooted in neutral earthy tones.

But, blending paint colors and multiple wood species (white oak, knotty pine, alder, cedar, mahogany) into one seamless palette? That wasn’t simple.

Stains look different on every species. Undertones shift. Whites pull yellow. Beiges go gray.

And, getting it wrong is expensive and frustrating.

So, every decision mattered.

Instead of guessing, I tested everything.

Dozens of white and beige paint samples.
Custom stain formulas on scrap wood.
Late-night research.
Last-minute change orders to get it right.

I consulted my sister.
Spent hours comparing undertones.
Created endless Canva boards.
Joined Facebook groups.
Visited paint stores and lumber yards.

I spent hundreds on scrap wood to test custom mixes and thousands on build changes to make sure every finish blended seamlessly.

Because “almost right” wasn’t good enough.

I envisioned:

• A warm white wall and range hood
• A creamy beige for cabinets + trim that leans both warm and cool
• A light–medium white oak stain with no pink, yellow, orange, or gray undertones

Everything had to pair beautifully with Taj Mahal quartzite and feel timeless, not trendy.

Once the perfect white oak stain and paint combination was finalized, I re-evaluated every other finish (floors, beams and tray ceiling) ensuring every wood tone lived in the same warm family. Even the carpet was chosen to quietly support the palette.

Then came the pantry.

It’s open to the kitchen through an arched entry with no door, which meant the color couldn’t compete, it had to flow.

I wanted a fully color-drenched warm brown that felt rich and elevated without pulling red, gray, or heavy against the lighter kitchen finishes.

After testing multiple shades, I found the one. A warm brown that adds depth and contrast while still feeling cohesive when viewed through the arch.

It quickly became one of my favorite spaces in the home.

And one of the most asked-about.

For the exterior, I envisioned a moody and sleek aesthetic with an elevated touch. I wanted to incorporate bold, dark, paint with warm wood accents and crisp white stone for a striking yet refined look.

and the result is cohesive, timeless, and intentionally layered.

WHATS INCLUDED?

  • Custom white oak stain formula (used on my white oak kitchen and bathroom cabinets and fireplace mantel but also used on knotty alder cabinets in laundry room)

  • Custom Knotty Pine stain formula (used on my living room beams and kitchen tray ceiling)

  • Pre-mixed mahogany and cedar stains on my front door and exterior cedar pillars and ceilings.

  • Earthy green color in my laundry room

  • Rich brown paint color in my pantry

  • Creamy beige kitchen cabinet color (also used on all trim in my home)

  • Neutral warm white wall color

  • Warm LVP floor option

  • Carpet selection

  • Deep, warm black color used on the exterior, game room, and select bathroom cabinets

After hundreds of DMs asking for exact paint colors and stain formulas, I decided to organize everything into one simple, 10-page resource, complete with photos and links.

No more guesswork.
No more testing.
Just a cohesive, proven palette.

Happy designing 🤍

I have been on decision making overload with work and the baby and just life so I did not have the time or energy to find the perfect stain. I was going to settle for something off the shelf and it would have been terrible. The stain is just so perfect and the top coat really brings it to life. Thank you for sharing!

First off, I have to say - I'm so impressed that you seamlessly brought together your wood floors with two different wood species using all different stains. The tones are so warm, cozy and inviting. Thank you for playing a part in helping me create my dream kitchen/living space.

I envisioned a warm tone for my pine beams in my living room and I thought it was going to be easy to find. After trying 20 stains, I realized everything was either too dark, too light, too grey or pulled yellow.... until using yours. IT'S PERFECT.

The paint colors for your walls, trim, doors and cabinets look so good together. It was very overwhelming trying to pick a white paint color for my entire house during the new build process. I didn't even know there was a such thing as "cool" and "warm" whites. Your colors are exactly what I envisioned for my space and I'm so glad I found your IG page.
