Some applicants have wanted to be lawyers since childhood. Many more discover the possibility after years of working, solving problems, and seeing how systems affect people. If that's you, you may be staring at a blank page, wondering how to explain a reason that developed slowly.
Here's the good news: a meaningful Why Law story doesn't require trauma, a dramatic turning point or a single moment of certainty. It requires honest reflection and clear connections. This mini-course helps you find them.
Your interest in law grew over time, not in one moment
"I want to help people" is true, but feels too vague
You're not sure which experience to write about
You've been staring at a blank page

Experience: what have I experienced, observed or done?
Insight: what did I learn, notice or begin to question?
Interest: what issue, responsibility or problem holds my attention?
Law: why am I considering legal education as a way to explore or address it?
Future: what do I hope to learn, contribute or pursue next?
It's a thinking tool, not a formula. Your final essay can take whatever shape your story and each school's prompt call for.

Applying to law school while working full time can feel isolating. Most advice is written for college seniors, and most of the people around you aren’t going through this.
When you enroll, you’ll get an invitation to Career → JD | The Working Professional’s Law School Application Community, a free private Facebook group for career changers, non-traditional applicants and working professionals on the road to law school.
Inside the community, you can:
Ask questions as you work through your course
Connect with other applicants balancing jobs, families and full lives
Get admissions insights from me, drawn from 10+ years in law school admissions
Share wins, drafts-in-progress and “aha” moments with people who get it

You'll walk away with
A clearer understanding of what actually draws you to law
Your Why Law Story Map, connecting your experience to your interest in law and your next steps
A preliminary personal statement outline, in your own words

This course is about discovering and organizing your story, not writing the final essay. You'll leave with clarity and a plan, so the drafting that comes next starts from something real.
Who's teaching
As Ms. Law School Guru. I've worked in law school admissions for more than 10 years, including at national and regionally law schools, and I review more than 700 law school applications every year. I built this course for applicants whose experience doesn't fit the traditional pre-law mold, because that experience is often their greatest asset.
A quick note: this course helps you make thoughtful, informed decisions about your application. No course can guarantee admission, and requirements vary by school, so always follow each school's instructions.
Questions
How long does it take? About 25–30 minutes of lessons, plus time for the workbook. The goal is for you to finish in one sitting.
Do I need to have anything written already? No. You only need to be willing to reflect on your experience and make some decisions.
I graduated years ago. Is this still for me? Yes. It was built for applicants with work experience.
