A Memoir of What I Built, What I Lost, and Who I Became
I was a pastor's wife for eighteen years. Married at twenty one. I built a life, a ministry, a family, and an identity around a marriage that ended publicly when my husband announced our divorce on social media, without telling me first.
HONEST is the book I wrote after the silence.
It is the truest thing I have ever made. The whole story, unfiltered and unapologetic, about what I lived through and what it cost me. It is about identity, faith, marriage, motherhood, public exposure, private grief, and the long, quiet work of becoming the woman you were before someone else's life became the frame around yours.
I wrote it because I needed to. I wrote it because I couldn't find the book I needed in the season I needed it most. I wrote it because I believe there is a quiet army of women out there carrying private grief, holding things together with their bare hands, wondering if the life on the other side of the storm is even worth reaching for.
It is. I promise you, it is.
From the prologue:
It was 11:31 on a Saturday morning, and I had just started preparing a late breakfast when I received a text message. It was from him. He wrote that he would be sharing a very long, carefully crafted statement about our divorce, which he included. For eighteen years, we had publicly held ourselves up as an example of what a healthy, successful Christian marriage looked like.
His statement had already been posted on all his social media pages. It had been posted on the church’s social media pages. It had been emailed to the entire congregation.
My legs gave out beneath me, and I hit the floor on my knees. A sound came out of me that I did not recognize. It was raw and primal, a cry pulled from a place beyond language.
My kids came running. The only thing I could say was, “It’s all over social media.”
Inside HONEST:
The architecture of a life built around someone else’s calling — and what collapses when the calling moves on.
The public humiliation of a private ending.
What the church does not know how to hold.
The identity you lose inside a long marriage, and the slow, daily work of finding her again.
The first year alone: what terrified me, what surprised me, what healed me.
What my children saw, and what I hope they learned.
The rebuild: home, money, peace, self-trust, and the strange, sturdy freedom of an honest life.
