
Forgiveness may release emotional weight, but forgiveness does not automatically answer every question of accountability. Sometimes the unfinished work is not “Can I forgive?” but “What happened, what did it cost, what remains due, and what can now be repaired?”
I do not have to pretend there was no debt in order to stop living as a collector.
Al-Ḥasīb invites an accounting. Human accounting is limited: we do not know everything, possess perfect memory, or hold ultimate authority. Allah’s reckoning is complete; ours must therefore be humble, evidence-aware, proportionate, and open to correction.
