The Art of Refinement | A therapeutic workbook for letting go, growth and continuing refinement
What must end for what is emerging to become clear?
This volume builds on the work that came before it. We began with clay: human, unfinished, capable of being shaped. Across the Beautiful Names, we have learned to notice, discern, repair, protect, begin, breathe, build and live. Al-Mumit asks a different question: what can no longer come with me?
A DELIBERATE DISTANCE FROM THE LITERAL MEANING Al-Mumit concerns Allah as the One who causes literal death. The therapeutic exercises in this workbook intentionally move away from that literal meaning. Here, words such as ending, dying, pruning and removal are metaphors for habits, roles, patterns, assumptions, expectations, behaviors and seasons that may need to stop, change or be released. Human beings do not possess Allah's divine attribute.
The purpose is not destruction. It is discernment. The clearer the form becomes, the more carefully we must choose what we remove.
