Everything changes hands. How do I hold it - and how do I hand it over?
Al-Wāriṯ brings us from permanence to stewardship. Al-Bāqī asked where we return when created things change. Al-Wāriṯ asks what happens while responsibilities, resources, knowledge, authority, relationships, and institutions are temporarily in our hands.
The central task is not to build an impressive legacy. It is to receive a trust, care for it well, develop others, recognize when its season in our hands is ending, and release it without confusing stewardship with ownership.
Faithfulness to a trust may require recognizing when its time in my hands has ended.
