Our brain is constantly taking in sensory information to help us make sense of the world around us. Sensory integration is a process that allows our body and brain to take in information from the environment, organize it through our central nervous system, and create a response that allows us to participate in everyday life.
When we talk about sensory, we may think of our 5 common senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, and sound). However, our bodies actually have 8 different sensory systems that integrate and work together to process environmental and internal sensory information!
Check out this easy to read sensory handout that briefly explains each of our 8 sensory systems!
