When No Contact Isn't an Option

Learn to recognise manipulation, anticipate their tactics and protect your boundaries, privacy and peace of mind without getting pulled into their games.

Dealing with a narcissistic or highly manipulative person is exhausting. It can be deeply traumatising, and in some situations, dangerous. Especially when you can't simply walk away or cut contact.

You probably know what it's like to receive a message that immediately puts you on edge. Another accusation, demand, threat or seemingly innocent question that you know could turn into something much bigger. You find yourself carefully choosing your words, trying to avoid another confrontation, defending yourself against false accusations or explaining things that shouldn't need explaining.

And it doesn't necessarily end when the conversation is over. You may spend hours replaying what happened, worrying about what they'll do next or wondering whether something you said could be used against you.

Perhaps you've reached the point where you've had enough. You want to stand up for yourself, expose their lies, confront them with what you've discovered and make it absolutely clear that you're no longer going to tolerate their behaviour.

That's a completely understandable reaction. In a healthy relationship, speaking openly, addressing harmful behaviour and standing up for yourself are generally constructive. But when you're dealing with someone who uses communication to manipulate or control you, those same approaches can have the opposite effect.

Your frustration, anger and attempts to defend yourself may give them exactly the reaction they're looking for. Confronting them can lead to further arguments, manipulation, threats or retaliation. And the more you explain, the more information you may unintentionally give them to use against you.

This is particularly serious when children, finances or legal proceedings are involved, where messages, statements and personal information may later be taken out of context or used against you. Even seemingly innocent questions, social media activity or shared accounts can give someone unwanted access to your private life.

The key is learning to recognise what someone may be trying to achieve before you respond. Are they looking for information? Trying to provoke you? Testing a boundary? Creating an argument? Or is there something you genuinely need to address?

Once you begin recognising these patterns, you can stop automatically responding on their terms and start making more deliberate choices about your own communication.

How This Course Can Help You

Over seven short, practical lessons, I'll help you understand common manipulation tactics, anticipate how interactions may unfold and recognise when someone is trying to draw you into a reaction.

You'll learn how to pause and assess before responding, whether you're dealing with a text message, a phone call or a face-to-face confrontation. We'll look at how to decide what actually needs a response, how little you may need to say and how to protect your personal information without unnecessarily exposing yourself to further manipulation.

We'll also explore communication strategies such as Grey Rock, BIFF and JADE-free responses, including how to use them appropriately and when they may be counterproductive or even unsafe.

You'll learn why communication strategies that work in healthy relationships, including Nonviolent Communication, can backfire when dealing with a narcissistic or highly manipulative person. Instead of resolving conflict, explaining yourself, confronting their behaviour or expressing your feelings can fuel further manipulation, provoke retaliation and give them more ammunition to use against you.

We'll also cover digital boundaries and information control, and you'll create your own practical communication plan with guidelines and ready-to-use responses for situations you regularly face.

The aim is to help you move from constantly reacting, second-guessing yourself and feeling at the mercy of someone else's behaviour to being more prepared, confident and deliberate in how you respond.

It's about reclaiming your time and energy, protecting your privacy and making your own decisions rather than allowing someone else's demands, provocations or moods to dictate your day.
