In this review, you'll receive feedback on the first chapter (5,000 words) of your novel. I provide in-line comments in your manuscript on things like pacing, character introductions, plot, worldbuilding, etc. You'll also receive a five minute personalized video summarizing my recommendations for improvement.
What genres is this for?
Any genre of fiction, but not middle grade, children's books, memoir, or nonfiction.
How do I send you the manuscript?
After purchase, you'll receive an email with instructions on submitting your pages to me.
How long does the review take?
Once you submit your pages, I'll email you the completed review in 7 business days.
How will I receive my review?
You'll receive your pages back with my comments made in the margins, as well as a five minute video summarizing my recommendations, via email.
When should I purchase this first chapter review?
Depends on what you're looking for. It can be helpful if you have a completed novel but want to make sure your opening pages are solid, whether you plan to query or self-publish. Or, if you're still in the drafting stage but want help seeing issues in your opening pages, this could be helpful too.
How many words are included in this first chapter review?
Up to 5,000 words. If your first chapter is shorter than that, then you can send more pages to hit that 5,000 word limit. If your first chapter is longer than that, please just send the first 5,000 words.
Can I send you an AI-written chapter?
No. I don't work with any generative AI-written work. It's important to me as a reader and writer and editor that I only work with authors who aren't using generative AI tools. Get more information on my AI policy here.
What if I want more editing after the review is finished?
I offer a full manuscript evaluation, which is an expanded version of this review that includes comments in the margins plus a 6-8 page editorial letter. I also have a 6 month coaching program with editing + support in the process of writing your book. If you hire me for either option, you can apply the cost of this review to the price. So you'll receive a $99 discount!
