How This Vocal Coach Turned Her Side Hustle Into a Thriving Global Business With a Small Following

Share    —

TL;DR: Anny Wang turned her passion for vocal coaching into a successful business using Stan without a massive following. By creating multiple offerings—like personalized coaching, online courses, and an engaging community—she’s built a sustainable business with just 3,000 followers.

Anny Wang is a Montreal-based vocal coach who turned a part-time teaching gig into a thriving hybrid business—helping singers around the world build confidence and find their voice.

Her signature offer is Tier One—a 60-day program designed to help aspiring singers free their voice and develop confident chest voice techniques through one-on-one sessions, group coaching, courses, and 24/7 community access. Students can progress at their own pace and often move into Tier Two—a follow-up program program that covers more advanced techniques, like mixing registers and head voice development.

Beyond her online programs, she’s also built an in-person community in Montreal, hosting weekly open mic nights for students to practice performing in front of live audiences.

Anny transformed her side hustle into a successful coaching empire despite starting with just 3,000 followers. Find out how she turned her passion into profit with Stan Store.

The Challenge: Selling Without a Large Audience

Anny never intended to become a content creator—she just wanted to sing and teach others how to use their voice.

As she posted candid clips of her vocal coaching sessions online, her audience began to grow. Then, during the COVID-19 pandemic, things started to really take off for her business—people were hungry for connection.

“I never wanted to be in front of the camera. I’m not a content creator—I was just kind of forced to be….Making content was the price I was willing to pay if it meant I could build trust and reach a lot of people who are learning to improve their vocals.”

Still, going all-in on her coaching business meant overcoming her fear of selling on social media. And with just a few thousand followers, that felt extra intimidating.

“As a business owner, you can’t avoid it. You have to sell your thing, and you have to really believe in it because there are so many other people who could be doing the same thing.”

To leap from side hustle to a full-time vocal coach, Anny knew she’d need multiple revenue streams she could scale and a tool that could make selling feel natural—not salesy. That’s what led her to Stan Store.

The Solution: A Simple Way to Sell Without Being Salesy

Stan gave Anny the tools to create a beautiful storefront for all her offers—from coaching and webinars to freebies, personalized video responses, and a private community.

Her calendar is embedded directly in her Stan Store, so potential students who discover her profile can instantly book a discovery call—no DMs required. And because she creates, sells, and hosts everything through Stan, she can easily manage it all in one place.

“Right away, when someone finds me, they can see my calendar and book a call. This is where I’m able to learn about where they’re at, where they want to go, and what’s stopping them from hitting that vocal breakthrough.”

One of Anny’s favorite parts of the program is her private Stan community, where Tier One students can share recordings, ask questions, and get real-time feedback between sessions. It helps them progress more quickly and feel supported throughout the experience—something she wishes she had when she was learning to sing. It’s one of the ways she’s been able to scale her business without losing the personal connections that make her coaching so effective.

The Benefit of Starting Small

Despite her initial fears, starting with a smaller audience became one of her greatest strengths.

It gave her space to actually get to know her audience. To begin building a community she genuinely understands—with people who are invested in her business and see value in all she has to offer.

The result? A hyper-engaged audience that’s eager and ready to buy when she promotes her offers.

And now that she’s expanded her online programs, Anny is serving students around the world—while continuing to grow her in-person community in Montreal.

“For me, it was really the online space that permitted me to meet so many people. Even people from my own city.”

The Results: 300 Students and Counting

Anny has worked with over 300 singers through her hybrid coaching model—balancing structured programs with personalized support. The weekly open mic nights she hosts in Montreal have become a powerful extension of that support system—giving students a chance to practice performing, face their fears, and build confidence as artists.

What started as a side hustle has evolved into something bigger than she could’ve imagined.

“I feel very empowered and excited just to show up to work every day. This is mine. It’s something bigger than just a one-hour session. And no one can take that away from me.”

Her success hasn’t come from chasing perfection, or follower counts—it’s come from staying consistent, showing up for her students, and trusting her work to speak for itself.

“You have to build something. And oftentimes, people won’t see it yet. But when you actually enjoy it, time goes by fast. All of a sudden, you’re coaching people. You’re helping people. And the results speak for themselves.”

What’s Next: Growing Global

Since we filmed Anny in November 2024, she has continued to grow her online presence, increasing her followers from 3,000 to over 70,000 in less than eight months. Now, she has her sights on expanding her global student base while building her in-person community in Montreal.

Anny continues to refine her programs, helping more singers develop powerful, expressive voices and build confidence. Her weekly open mic nights remain central to that mission. While they’re currently intimate, she sees them as the start of something much bigger.

“The dream is to fill a room of over 100 singers one day. But even now, with around 12 people, everyone gets the chance to sing. It’s really special.”

With a clear vision and growing momentum, Anny is determined to scale her impact without losing the authentic connections that set her business apart.

Her journey is proof that you don’t need millions of followers to build something meaningful. You just need a strong offer, the right tool, and the courage to start.

“These last few months have been about refining my vision. And I feel more certain than ever that this is the path for me.”
